They call model railroading "The World's Greatest Hobby". But getting started can be a little bit daunting. We've provided a host of links to places where you can quickly come up to speed on the ins and outs of scales, layout design, basic electronics, digital command control and other topics.

Some quick tips...  Start small and don't get overwhelmed. Take advantage of the incredible technology advances in recent years and look closely at using DCC technology. It vastly reduces the complexity of wiring a layout. Study the state of the art in easy to build foam core scenery. It's lightweight and not as messy as the old school plaster and newspaper techniques. Most importantly, have fun! Remember, it's a hobby!

Don't forget - we've been here since 1933 - and we love to talk trains. So read what's out there on the web and then come and pick our brains. We're always happy to help beginners!
